Maganda Grace lives in a village called Mawagala in Iganga District, Uganda. Like any other child, he goes to school, loves football, and has several friends. Yet unlike normal children, Maganda lives alone and is the primary caregiver for his younger siblings. The reality is Maganda is an AIDS orphan and is only 10 years old.

“It is amazing what can be accomplished when the right information is given to the right people.” These were the remarks of Pst. Vincent Obulengo, Chairman of OAIC East Africa Region, after visiting and working with the Farmers Friends Foundation in Kaberamaido, North Eastern Uganda. The training that the group’s 15 members received from OAIC in 2005 went a long way—they have made incredible achievements in farming initiatives, and their success has spread to their surrounding community.

As you enter the compound of Ida’s house in Mawagala village, Uganda, you will first notice that there are in fact two houses in front of you. Like a ‘Before & After’ spread in a magazine, you observe the first house—a dilapidated mud hut with holes in the walls and a sinking roof. Then you turn to the second house—a newly constructed brick and plaster building, complete with a sturdy roof and cement foundation. Ida explains proudly that the Centre for Evangelism (CFE), an OAIC member church, constructed this new home for her and her family. The project, she says, has improved her life in unspeakable ways.
