Nearly half of Africa’s population is under
the age of 15. Another 25% is aged 16-25. Africa’s population is
therefore predominantly young. This presents numerous opportunities,
but it also carries with it a great responsibility. Will there be
enough jobs for these young people? Where do we get the money to pay
for their education, health care, to feed them and to provide them with
the technical and tertiary education they need to prepare for their
future? Are we investing enough in them? Do we have the capacity to
supply such opportunities and services? Who are these young ones
really? What is the environment in which they are growing up? To what
challenges that lie ahead of them are we exposing them? Who are we
preparing them to be in the future?
