OAIC's vision is 'abundant life for all in community.' Yet communities in Africa continuously face challenges in various forms.
Today many African states hold routine elections and have created checks and balances within systems of governance to ensure accountability. However, the governance and leadership styles still do not always respond effectively to the needs of the people, and government corruption is often a reality that African states experience. People in Africa must also confront negative international developments that hinder their wellbeing. Climate change, in particular, is an urgent issue that Africans must confront, addressing their own dustruction of eco-systems as well as international activities that lead to global warming.
OAIC believes in the ability of our members and their communities to create social change. Members are involved in decision making at all levels of the organization for the benefit of their own communities, which is a core value of AICs. Through community building and organizing, OAIC members are able to take direct actions to address their own challenges.
African citizens must make economic, political, environmental, and social progress in order to overcome these shared challenges. At the OAIC, we are called to make this progress a reality. Through the founding visions of AICs, we equip communities with the values and methods of achieving social justice for all. This is the charge of Just Communities.
