This year marks the beginning of a major endeavor for
OAIC; we have started the process of constructing a new office
facility at our headquarters site in Nairobi, Kenya. Once completed, the building will accommodate OAIC and
other offices. We intend to complete the construction project by December, 2011.
OAIC International Office has resided in the same building for over twenty five years, and therefore the construction of a new
facility is a significant development for the organization. In the 1980's, not long after the organization's foundation, OAIC
moved from its original location on the compound of Nairobi's
Coptic Church to what at the time was a rental property. After the organization purchased the property a few years later, the site became what is today OAIC's headquarters. In the early 1990's, OAIC
constructed a second building on the property, which OAIC Kenya Chapter
currently occupies. This year both the OAIC International Office
building as well as the Kenya Chapter building will be demolished to
make room for a new, modern office facility.
Included
in the new building's
plan are four floors, two levels of parking, and a large reception hall
to
welcome guests. The design will provide OAIC with a fresh look, and the roof's wing-like structure is intended to remind one of a dove, the symbol of the Holy Spirit, and OAIC's logo. Most
significantly, the building will generate resources to sustain OAIC and its ministry among some of the
continent's most vulnerable communities.
During the construction period the OAIC International Office will move to a rented office
space within the same area of Nairobi. Although it will be operating from a temporary
location, this will not prevent the organization from continuing to administer
its programmes and perform its normal activities.
At this time we eagerly
await the breaking of ground, which will mark the beginning of the
construction project and a major change for our organization. We welcome contributions, which will make
our building plan a reality and help us to move into a bright new future for OAIC.
