Overview
The programme activities of
the OAIC aim at enabling member churches and their associated local communities
to make the vision of the organization a practical reality. There are four
programmes:
° Theology
(OAIC/DT) The Department of
Theology, founded in 1980, was originally known as the Theological Education by
Extension programme (OAIC/TEE). In 2005 the programme changed its name and its
vision. The Department’s broad objectives are:
· to work with
AICs to enable them to articulate their theologies
· to facilitate
the renewal of these theologies so member churches can address contemporary
issues more effectively
· in this context
to continue to support institutional theological training and theological
extension programmes for AICs and their members
° Development
and HIV/AIDS Programme The
programme aims to strengthen the ability of the OAIC member churches and the
communities they serve to respond to the challenges of HIV/AIDS and poverty. The
programme does this by empowering congregations and local communities to
generate their own initiatives to respond to the challenges. It is holistic in
approach, and mobilizes the faith and communal values of church and community so
that participants at the grassroots can strengthen and make more effective
their own community support networks.
° Centre for
Communication, Research, and Reflection (CCRR) The Centre is working with AICs to articulate and
renew their Founding Visions, and to sharpen their mission focus. In
conjunction with other OAIC programmes it seeks to ensure that programme activities
reflect the Founding Visions' values. It is developing a resource and research
centre in
Nairobi.
The Centre is also responsible for the communications functions of the OAIC.
° Women This programme is currently under reconstruction.
